Travelling around Italy by bus. One of the best ways to travel around Italy is by bus. They are generally quite fast and are usually very reliable. Many destinations in Italy cannot be reached by train and bus travel is the best way to go to remote places or travel local routes between small villages. Unfortunately, Italy does not have a national bus company and an independent bus operator handles each region. The bus companies do not work together to create an efficient itinerary between regions making it difficult to travel by bus from one region to another throughout Italy. Travel between regions is better accomplished by train, however bus travel is ideal when travelling within regions. Train travel in Italy is popular and inexpensive, however the bus networks go on strike far less frequently and are therefore worth getting to know. Buses travel to parts of Italy, which are simply inaccessible by train. Immediately upon entering the bus, it is necessary to validate your ticket using the orange machines on-board.
